The Southwest District, or District 3, was one of the last areas to be developed in San Francisco. It is now home to The San Francisco Zoo, Lake Merced, the San Francisco Golf Club, the Lake Merced Golf Club, Stonestown Galleria Mall, and The San Francisco State University Campus. Many of the buildings within the Southwest District are smaller residential properties built before the 1940's. With easy access to the 1 and 280 Freeways and relatively affordable, many middle class families have made their homes here.
